My friend just bought and hand-carved asked whether alcohol would be in bad taste. Maybe you could one day save (weeks? Months?), Must then back into the bottle?

Alcohol, in any case, the flavor of the wood. How much - depends on the type of wood used in the dining room. Think of whiskey - aging in wooden barrels and take the wood flavor and color. Anyway, give it a try. Drinking vodka is the worst that can happen is, it is :-) a natural wood flavor.
